The Adventures of

Ava & Mia

A new school year means news books, new friends, new teachers, and new fun! For Ava, this year is going to be the best one yet, but not everything goes as planned. When a bully ruins her first day, Ava feels trapped in a world of loneliness. It is only with the help of a brave new friend that the light starts to shine again. With Mia and her loved ones by her side, Ava learns a powerful lesson about what happens when you use your voice to stand up for yourself, and others.

At 11-years-old, Mayah Montero, is a children’s book author and entrepreneur. Her book, The
Adventures of Ava and Mia, was published in 2020 and allows her to use her voice to address bullying.
Shortly after publication, Mayah was interviewed on “Achieve Greatness, Maximizing Business
Authority, Youngpreneur Edition” on Facebook Live. In October of 2020, she was interviewed on Kudos
for Kids/Hindsight Media Radio (103.5). She went on to be featured in an article in Town and Country
Newspaper in November 2020.
From there, Mayah continued to participate in various interviews and events focused on literacy and
entrepreneurship throughout 2021. She was on “Spotlight Author Interview Show” in January and in
February participated in Make Literacy Dope: Black History Month Read Aloud. In March of 2021, Mayah
was interviewed on the Young CEO Lounge Podcast and co-hosted a Read Across America Zoom
workshop. In July, Mayah was featured on the "Philly Proud" segment on 6ABC news for her community work in the tristate area.

She was also honored by Community Family Life Services (CFLS), a non-profit
based in Washington DC, as their Children’s Nook Guest Author. In August, Mayah was the co-host of
Brunch with the Youth Authors and was interviewed on Kidz got the Biz Podcast Show. She wrapped up
the year with a very exciting award, as she was named the Youth Service America (YSA) Everyday Young
Hero because of her passion, creativity, and commitment to making an impact within her community.
The year 2022 held several accomplishments for both Mayah, and her characters, Ava and Mia. In
February, Mayah received a spotlight from the Multicultural Professional Network. As a result, she was
highlighted at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for Black History Month in recognition of her work
as a community member. In April, The Adventures of Ava and Mia was added to the Free Library of
Philadelphia catalog at the Greater Olney Branch. Mayah also joined fellow young author, Asil Greer,
and Mayor Jim Kenney for the Reading Promise: Avatar Launch Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Mayah and
Asil continued to collaborate and in October Mayah performed her “Anti-Bulling Pledge” at the “I Can
Read So I Can Lead: The Stage Play” in front of more than 300 audience members at the Proscenium
Theater. Mayah continued to actively co-host various events throughout the year. She co-hosted the
two-part Reading Is my Superpower Literacy Event in May and July and the Coast to Coast Children’s
Book Expo in June. She wrapped up 2022 as she co-hosted her Hot Coca and Books Holiday Celebration
for her 3 rd consecutive year.
Mayah also engages with her community through her various social media platforms, where she enjoys
hosting virtual read-along events and live sessions. In addition, she has interviewed and highlighted 12
young entrepreneurs on her YouTube Channel “The Mayah Imani Show”, which she launched in 2021.
While Mayah is dedicated to writing and business, she is also just like any other sixth grader. At school,
Mayah enjoys participating in chorus and she has been a cheerleader for five years. When she is not at
school, Mayah can be found rollerblading, playing volleyball, and spending time with her friends and
family. Her goal for 2023 is to read more books!
